Director of Stewardship & Endowment
Second Presbyterian Church
The Director of Stewardship and Endowment is responsible for the cultivation of a spirit of liberality among the membership of Second Presbyterian Church. This work will be accomplished through the establishment of an office of development to provide information and inspiration to assist members in the use of their resources in ways that serve and glorify God.
The Director of Stewardship and Endowment will carry out this ministry under the direction of the Senior Pastor of Second Presbyterian Church and in close cooperation with the President of the Endowment Board and other pastors and program staff of the church. The role of Director of Stewardship and Endowment will include the interpretation to the members of the congregation the short-term and long-term priorities established by the Session in order to secure their support. This support will include the giving of time, talents and financial resources to support the ministries and mission of Second Presbyterian Church.
Professional Attributes and Skills:
The Director of Stewardship and Endowment will be a person of deep faith in Jesus Christ, who exhibits love for the church and demonstrates strong pastoral skills. Candidates must be ordained or in the process of ordination. Knowledge of the financial management of the church and proven experience in fund raising activities in the church are essential. An ability to develop positive relationships with a wide variety of people with varying social, theological and intellectual sensitivities is necessary to fulfill the requirements of this position. The Director of Stewardship will be a person who is eager to learn, takes direction well and is innovative in developing new programs and procedures in cooperation with other members of the ministry team.
The principal duties of the Director of Stewardship and Endowment will be:
A. The establishment of a comprehensive development office as an integral part of the life and ministry of Second Presbyterian Church. This will be accomplished through the following actions:

Continue to build a donor database, beginning with donors to the Endowment Fund of Second Church. This database will contain confidential information relating to the giving patterns and funding interests of specific donors. Further, the database will be maintained electronically with the use of a software program designed for such purposes.

Serve as primary staff liaison with the Endowment Board and assist with all the organizational tasks of the board.

Implement the best practices of fund raising throughout the whole life of the church.

Maintain gift acknowledgment procedures for every contribution.

Conduct regular visits with persons who are prospective special gift donors, and build pastoral relationships with the older members of the congregation.

Provide opportunities for prospective donors to learn about planned giving, estate planning and other innovative means of making long-term gifts to the church.

Participate in the formation and monitoring of the annual budget, endowment budget and other designated funds of the church.

Give oversight and direction to the Stewardship Team in their work to raise support for the annual budget of the church.

Provide educational opportunities related to the relationship between faith and money, connecting theological understanding with the grace of giving.

Continue the development of an integrated database with the financial office of the church that provides opportunities to present specific groups of donors with specific appeals for support.

Bring together prospective donors who have particular interests with the appropriate staff persons related to those interests.

Regularly communicate with the Senior Pastor, the President of the Endowment Fund and other members of the program staff of the church regarding innovative ways to make the case for support of the church and its work.

Direct the work of the Executive Assistant to the Director of Stewardship and Endowment in setting up and maintaining a fully functioning office of development.
B. Additional pastoral duties as time permits:
Pastoral care visits with members as a part of the ministry team.
Leading worship, teaching, preaching and other pastoral duties as assigned by the Senior Pastor.
Participation in Executive Staff, Program Staff and Pastoral Care Staff Meetings on a regular basis.
Participation in the Presbytery, Synod and General Assembly and in the larger ecumenical community as opportunities arise.
Attend Session meetings, Business Affairs Committee meetings, Stewardship Ministry Team meetings as a staff liaison, and meet with other groups as directed by the Senior Pastor.
